This page explains how to delete your DryICE account and what data will be removed. We respect your right to privacy and control over your personal information.

📊 What Data We Collect

DryICE collects the following information to provide our community ICE sighting tracking service:

Authentication & Profile Data

  • Email address (for account authentication)
  • Display name/username (shared with sighting reports)
  • Profile photo (if provided via OAuth)
  • OAuth provider information (Google, Apple, or email)

Location Data

  • GPS coordinates when reporting ICE sightings
  • Device location to show nearby sightings
  • Saved favorite locations (optional)

User-Generated Content

  • ICE sighting reports (location, descriptions, notes)
  • Photos of sighting locations (optional)
  • Votes on sighting reports (thumbs up/down)
  • Favorite location names and addresses

Usage & Device Data

  • App preferences and settings (stored locally)
  • Device type and operating system
  • App usage analytics (to improve service)
  • Push notification tokens (for sighting alerts)

🎯 How We Use Your Data

  • Community Service: Display ICE sighting information to help community members stay informed and aware
  • Location Services: Show nearby sightings and enable distance-based filtering within your selected radius
  • Quality Control: Use voting data to maintain accuracy of sighting reports
  • Community Safety: Help communities stay informed about ICE activity in their area
  • Account Management: Authenticate users and sync data across devices
  • Service Improvement: Analyze usage patterns to improve app functionality

🔒 Data Sharing & Privacy

What we share publicly: Your display name/username is shared with ICE sighting reports to provide attribution. This is the only personal identifier shared with the community.

What we keep private: Your email address, full profile information, device details, and personal settings are never shared publicly or sold to third parties.

Third-party services: We use Google Maps for location services, Firebase for authentication and data storage, and analytics services to improve the app. These services operate under their own privacy policies with strict data protection agreements.

🗑️ What Gets Deleted

When you delete your account, the following data will be permanently removed:

  • Account Information: Email, password, profile photo, and authentication data
  • Personal Settings: App preferences, favorite locations, notification settings
  • User Identification: Your username/display name will be removed from future use
  • Private Data: All personal information stored in our systems
⚠️ Important: Past sighting reports you submitted will remain visible to the community for safety and continuity, but your username will be anonymized to "Deleted User". This ensures the community continues to benefit from the information while protecting your identity.

🔄 Account Deletion Process

Follow these steps to delete your DryICE account:

  • Review Your Data

    Before deleting, you may want to export your data. Open the DryICE app, go to Settings → Data Export to download a copy of your information.

  • Contact Support

    Email us at support@dryice.app with the subject line "Account Deletion Request" and include:

    • Your registered email address
    • Your display name (if different from email)
    • Reason for deletion (optional but helpful)
  • Verification

    We'll verify your identity by sending a confirmation link to your registered email address. Click the link to confirm deletion.

  • Confirmation

    Once verified, your account will be permanently deleted within 30 days. You'll receive a final confirmation email when the process is complete.

⚠️ This action cannot be undone. Account deletion is permanent. If you're experiencing issues with the app, please contact support first — we may be able to help!

💡 Before You Go...

If you're concerned about privacy or have issues with the app, consider these alternatives to account deletion:

  • Clear Local Data: Go to Settings → Clear All Data to remove locally stored information without deleting your account
  • Disable Notifications: Turn off push notifications in Settings if you're receiving too many alerts
  • Update Privacy Settings: Adjust your location sharing and data collection preferences
  • Take a Break: Simply sign out and come back when you need ICE sighting information again
